Nova Scotia Women's History Society fonds

Fonds consist of records created and accumulated by the Nova Scotia Women’s History Society (NSWHS) including financial reports, budgets, meeting agendas and minutes, by-laws, member lists, media releases, correspondence, and grant applications, as well as slides, photographs, newspaper clippings, and pamphlets pertaining to NSWHS initiatives. Materials came from Janet Guildford and Sharon MacDonald, two founding members and first two chairs of the society.

Fonds also consist of records relating to the planning and installation of the WOW [Woman on the Waterfront] project (2013-2017) including artist agreements, technical drawings, budgets, promotional brochures, fundraising activities, correspondence, and historical research compiled by NSWHS members.

Kenneth Dewar fonds

This fonds contains records created and accumulated by Dr. Kenneth Dewar during the course of his career as a professor of History. The fonds consists of four main series: Teaching activities, Committee work, Frank H. Underhill research and Charles Clarke research.

The Teaching activities series includes course outlines, readings, lecture and discussion notes for various courses that were taught by Dr. Dewar. These include courses at Mount Saint Vincent University, University of Toronto, University of Victoria and Wilfred Laurier University.

The Committee work series includes minutes, memoranda and reports from various committees on which Dr. Dewar participated in during his time at Mount Saint Vincent University. These include Department of History Committee, Committee on Academic Policy and Planning, Library Committee, and the Arts and Science Promotion Committee.

The fonds also contains Dr. Dewar’s research files, notably his work on Frank H. Underhill and Charles Clarke. In these series, types of records that can be found include photocopies of primary and secondary source documents that were consulted, notes, bibliography, publisher correspondence, and reviews.

MSVU Facilities Management fonds

The Facilities Management fonds contains records produced by the Facilities Management department of Mount Saint Vincent University. These records document the department’s various activities on the campus.

Presently, the fonds contains three series.
The first series contains records relating to the university grounds which encompasses nearly 38 acres of land. Types of records in this series include information on the Sister Lua Arboretum, the Mount’s fitness trail (Freda Wales Walking Trail), donations for memorial benches, trees and plants located on campus, and tree and plant care for the campus, including details on pesticide and fertilization activities. The records also include articles and reports detailing grounds maintenance, as well as records relating to the history and design of the MSVU grounds. Finally, important documentation and policies relating to safety are also included. A select number of born-digital files are also part of this series. Please contact an Archivist for more information about the scope and content of these digital files.

The second series contains original architectural plans for a number of buildings at the university, including Evaristus Hall, Seton Academic Centre (referred to as the Academic Building in the architectural plans), E. Margaret Fulton Communications Centre, Rosaria Student Centre, and the Motherhouse as well as other proposed buildings for MSVU campus. Various copies of architectural plans are available and show different designs.

The third series consists of photographs of MSVU campus.

Further accruals for this fonds are anticipated.

Ruth Noonan Wright fonds

This fonds contains a scrapbook created by Ruth Noonan Wright. The scrapbook documents Wright's time as a student at Mount Saint Vincent Academy (graduated 1953) and later as a mature student at Mount Saint Vincent University (1972-1975). The scrapbook contains photographs,newspaper clippings, handwritten text detailing Wright's memories of the Mount, original pencil drawings, and ephemera of the Mount's student activities.

William MacDonald archival collection

The William MacDonald archival collection contains accompanying material to the Mount's rare book collection. This includes correspondence between Head Librarians Sister Francis de Sales and Sister Francis Delores with William MacDonald, inventory books of books received at the Mount, research and work done with the collection by Mount Librarians, and information on a high-profile theft that took place in the Reading Room of the collection. Finally, the collection also contains damaged books that have been removed from the main reading room for conservation purposes.

Mount Saint Vincent University Department of Athletics and Recreation

Fonds consists of textual records and photographs relating to athletics and recreation at MSVU. The contents of this collection were largely created by the administration and students at MSVU and by larger governing athletic bodies such as the Atlantic Women's intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Canadian Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Union, and the Atlantic Universities Athletic Association. Athletic topics documented include the athletic publications created by the Mount, public affairs such as news releases and athletic/recreation schedules, and documents relating to the larger governing athletic bodies such as reports, minutes, correspondence, by-laws, championship lists, tournament lists, and participation lists. There are also many documents related to MSVU sporting events and photos and documents relating to athletic teams at the university.

Mount Saint Vincent University Student Union fonds

Fond consists of textual records and photographs relating to Mount Saint Vincent University's Student Union. The contents of this collection were largely created by the student council members and administration at MSVU. The largest series within this collection is administrative materials but there are also many documents relating to events, publications such as the Student Handbook and student newspaper (the Picaro), financial documents, documents relating to Student Union regulations, the Student Union’s businesses and services, as well as committees on which student council members serve, Student Union projects, and documents relating to non-traditional Mount students and the organizations to which they belong. The Mount Saint Vincent University Student associations included within the fonds are at least partially governed by executive members of the Student Union.

Mount Saint Vincent University audio-visual collection

The collection comprises the Mount Saint Vincent University-related audio and visual material collected for the Mount Archives. Of significance to the collection is the Distance University Education via Television (DUET) series, which includes recordings of Convocation and other unique programming, like the the literary Off the Page subseries and the Alumnae Special subseries. Also included in this collection are audio and visual recordings pertaining to women's roles in education, religion, and employment.

Garnet Rebekah Lodge no. 30 fonds

This fonds consists of records pertaining to membership in the Rebekah Lodge. The records belonged primarily to Edna M. Mitchell, though other names can be seen inscribed in some of the records. The records were accumulated principally during her membership at Garnet Rebekah Lodge no. 30, though some earlier materials appear to originate from a period when she was part of Mizpah Rebekah Lodge no. 5.

The records are mainly booklets that members used regularly at assemblies. This includes ceremony orders and proceedings (e.g. re-dedication ceremony), cypher text, a questions and answers booklet, constitution and by-laws, charge book and a collection of articles by Myrtle Russell, president of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies. There is also one photograph in the fonds depicting Edna M. Mitchell and fellow members at Garnet Lodge.
