The Mount Saint Vincent University Library and Archives fonds consists of records pertaining to and accrued by MSVU’s Library and Archives. Fonds contains administrative records, including information on building management, written histories of the Library, newsletters and bulletins, annual reports, surveys produced by the Library, licence agreements, cataloguing information, circulation statistics, acquisitions, purchases, and budgets as well as collective agreements.

Fonds also consists of meeting minutes and notes from various internal and external committees and associations the Library has participated in, including the Novanet Management Committee, the Senate Library Committee, CanCopy, the Faculty Association, Internet Society, and College and University Systems Exchange (CAUSE). Records contain library associations as well, including the Association of Atlantic University Librarians’ Council (AAULC), the American Library Association (ALA), the Atlantic Provinces Library Association (APLA), and the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) among others.

Fonds also consists of records pertaining to staff, including general information on positions and staffing as well as materials from previous University Librarians and Collections Librarians. Fonds also contains correspondence between various library staff with MSVU faculty members, administrators, and other staff.

Series consists of administrative files created by the Teaching and Learning Centre, including meeting notes and reports from the Continuing Education committee and sub-committee (1978-1986), the Senate committee on Continuing Education (1973-1977), and CAPP: the Committee on Academic Policy and Planning (2007, 2012). Series also consists of director’s meetings notes (1987-1988), communications from MSVU’s President (2000-2014), Continuing Education reviews (1988-1995), notes from the Continuing Education Task Force (1981-1988), Continuing Education consultations (2011-2012), MSVU strategic plans (1987-1990, 2010-2017), and Faculty collective agreements (2000-2019), as well as annual reports (1972-1993), summer school session reports (1973-84, 2004-2006), and CAUCE (Canadian Association for University Continuing Education) environmental scans (1992) and correspondence (2007-2015).

Series contains surveys from non-traditional students (1986), adult students (1984-1986), and first year students (2004), as well as activities produced by the Teaching and Learning Centre including the 30th year anniversary (2010-2012), various lecture series (2011-2017), programs and workshops (1987-2003), and course offerings and course development (1992-2018).

Series also consists of informational materials including media guides (2000, 2002), promotional pamphlets (1980-2015), written histories of MSVU and the Teaching and Learning Centre (1972-2015), and various publications of Folia Montana (2001-2004).

Fonds consists of records pertaining to the Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery, including annual reports (1969-2003), biennial reports (1988), and administrative and promotional material from its opening (1966-1970). Fonds also consists of records related to events and exhibitions at the Gallery, including catalogues, publications, and promotional brochures and posters published by the Gallery (1970-2020), calendars of events and programs (1972-1978), and correspondence between the Gallery and artists regarding their art and exhibitions (1968-1971).

Fonds also contains scrapbooks with newspaper clippings related to the Gallery (1972-1976), a scrapbook with photographs of Gallery programming, and visitor sign-in books (1971-1974).

Fonds consists of records pertaining to Mount Saint Vincent University’s Teaching and Learning Centre (previously the Distance Learning and Continuing Education department). Materials include budgets, annual reports, strategic planning, surveys, correspondence, and other administrative records. Fonds also consists of records related to DUET (Distance University Education via Television) as well as other projects and initiatives supported by the Centre. Records related to online learning and programming are included as well.

Series consists of records pertaining to MSVU Teaching and Learning Centre projects and partnerships, including the non-credit program (1992, 1999-2016), Management Development for Women (1992-2012), MATRIX: a math empowerment project (1996), courses for junior high and high school students (1993, 1995, 2013), Christianity: a special program for adults (1981-1993), French for the Future Forum (2016), Chartered Management Accountants accelerated program learning lab (2011-2013), Q-tips: English immersion program (2002), Quebec teachers English program (2000-2001), faculty mentoring (2011), and Commonwealth of Learning (1998-2004). Series also consists of records related to Elder Learners (1988-1993), the Nova Scotia Centre for Aging (1996, 2013), and Experience Unlimited at MSVU (1985-1989).

Series contains information on international programs and partnerships, including reports on Barbados (2003), Trinidad (2001), Mexico (2000-2001), and Jamaica (2002), as well as the University of St. Martin (2005-2015) and Bermuda College (2000-2018).

Series also includes various materials pertaining to online learning: E-Learning (2002), Moodle (2010-2016), Elluminate/Collaborate (2011-2012), Open Learning (200-), African Virtual University (1999-2000), Canadian Virtual University (2001-2003), and the tech-enabled learning working committee (2015).

Series consists of records pertaining to DUET (Distance University Education via Television), including written histories of the program (1982-2001), handbooks and informational pamphlets for faculty members and students (1982-1987), course offerings and schedules (1982-1992), communications from viewers, and testimonials (1984, 1992, 1994). Series also consists of records pertaining to re-broadcasts (2001) and the digital archives project (2014).

Mount Saint Vincent University Artifact collection

Collection consists of artifacts donated by Mount Saint Vincent University and MSVU alumni, including medals and pendants awarded to graduates (1886-1940), souvenir pins for the Mount's 60th anniversary (1985), various Mount Scholar pins and MSVU lapel pins, medals from the Sodality Club, patches and stamps of the Mount Saint Vincent crest and coat of arms, Mount Saint Vincent College song lyrics, a Bachelor of Arts hood from the first commencement (1929), a leaf from the laurel crowns worn by graduates (1939), MSVU banners, and other Mount Saint Vincent ephemera including the papal flag, plaques awarded to Dr. Naomi Hersom, and commemorative items from building openings including keys, ribbons, plaques, trowels, and posters.

Collection includes plaques from the original Evaristus Chapel and items that were formerly housed in the MacDonald Collection room, including bookends, a Shakespeare bust, and various decorative boxes and cups.

Collection also consists of items donated by the Alumnae Association, including the Alumnae news letterhead, Director’s gavel, Alumnae weekend trophy (1994), Shine-rama t-shirt, and Alumnae Association pins, as well as items donated by the Sisters of Charity, including the School of Music seal stamp, an Infant of Prague statue, and a vase painted by Fide de Bedia who was an alumnae of Mount Saint Vincent Academy (1905-1909).

Box UR-025-005 also contains textual records and correspondence regarding the Mount Saint Vincent crest, coat of arms, and seal, as well as notes on the MSVU mace, and pocket calendars with directions of the College Mistress (Warden) regarding student activities (1950s).

Committees

Series consists of meeting minutes and agendas for various committees the MSVU Library has participated in. Committees include Novanet, the Senate Library Committee, and the CanCopy Committee regarding copyright law, as well as other internal committees including the Space Utilization Committee, Physical Plant, Budget Committee, and EMF Management Committee.
