Grounds Files

Series consists of materials relating to MSVU grounds. Records primarily pertain to grounds maintenance, including landscaping, plant and tree locations, watering schedules, plant purchases, turf repair quotes and plans, soil samples, grounds boundaries and measurements, gift trees, memorial benches and plaques, pest control, and pesticide information. Series also includes certain records on the design and construction of the E. Margaret Fulton Communications Centre and the Margaret Norrie McCain Centre.

Series contains information on the Sister Lau arboretum, the Freda Wales walking trail, as well as the community and butterfly gardens. Informational documents also include gardening tips and articles, the history of MSVU grounds, campus maps, newsletters, and records related to initiatives such as plant swaps and “plant of the week.”

Series also includes safety information, including WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), safety training, safe-operating procedures, safety minutes, handbooks, brochures, and articles.

MSVU Facilities Management fonds

The Facilities Management fonds contains records produced by the Facilities Management department of Mount Saint Vincent University. These records document the department’s various activities on the campus.

Presently, the fonds contains three series.
The first series contains records relating to the university grounds which encompasses nearly 38 acres of land. Types of records in this series include information on the Sister Lua Arboretum, the Mount’s fitness trail (Freda Wales Walking Trail), donations for memorial benches, trees and plants located on campus, and tree and plant care for the campus, including details on pesticide and fertilization activities. The records also include articles and reports detailing grounds maintenance, as well as records relating to the history and design of the MSVU grounds. Finally, important documentation and policies relating to safety are also included. A select number of born-digital files are also part of this series. Please contact an Archivist for more information about the scope and content of these digital files.

The second series contains original architectural plans for a number of buildings at the university, including Evaristus Hall, Seton Academic Centre (referred to as the Academic Building in the architectural plans), E. Margaret Fulton Communications Centre, Rosaria Student Centre, and the Motherhouse as well as other proposed buildings for MSVU campus. Various copies of architectural plans are available and show different designs.

The third series consists of photographs of MSVU campus.

Further accruals for this fonds are anticipated.

This subseries contains information related to the Mount Association for Non-Traditional University Students (MANUS) task force. This folder contains a document called: Voluntary Planning Submission to Royal Commission on Post-Secondary Education (1983), an article called: Report of the Nova Scotia Royal Commission on Post-Secondary Education - N.S. Summary (Dec 21 1985), a document called: Royal commission Highlights, a document called: Non-traditional Student Needs at Mount St. Vincent University, a document outlining full time enrolment statistics by program at MSVU, task force related records of correspondence, and a non-traditional student questionnaire.

This subseries contains information related to the Mount Association for Non-Traditional University Students (MANUS) orientation. This file contains a list of MANUS orientation participants for 1987, records of correspondence, a document called AIR professional file, the adult learner: four aspects, a page of information about the organization, a pamphlet about the organization, a flyer seeking non-traditional students to run for MANUS executive, a MSVU orientation handbook, a calendar of events for 1988, a MSVU Seton Academic Centre auditorium seating layout, a list of student orientation committee recommendations, orientation to university-duties of facilitators, orientation schedules, a note from the registrar about orientation, a letter to MANUS volunteers, and a list of MANUS student orientation volunteers.

This subseries contains information related to the Shinerama fundraiser that the Mount Association for Non-Traditional University Students (MANUS) took part in. This file contains a document entitled: Shinerama at the Mount - First Campaign, related records of correspondence, a document entitled: The Role of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chapter Shinerama Representative, and the 1987 Shinerama directory.
