The Picaro

This subseries contains issues of the Picaro, which is the name of the student newspaper which was owned and operated by Mount Saint Vincent University’s Student Union. The Picaro began in 1965 but the name was briefly changed to Jargon from 2002-2004 and was eventually changed to Sentinel in 2005.

Student Union Open-Door Policy Agreement

This subseries contains information about Mount Saint Vincent Student Union’s Open-Door Policy Agreement which was formed between the Mount’s Student Union and the Student Unions of other local universities. The Agreement included Mount Saint Vincent University, the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s University, Dalhousie University, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. The purpose of this agreement was to allow students to gain admittance to the functions of these universities’ cooperative adventures which would take place during the 1982-1983 academic school year.

Mature/Part-Time Students

This subseries contains information regarding part-time students at Mount Saint Vincent University. It contains a proposal concerning part-time students by the Mount Saint Vincent Student Union. This proposal is what later led to the establishment of the Campus Association of Part-Time Students. The file also includes a letter to part-time students about holding a referendum so that the proposal could come into effect, and records of correspondence regarding Student Union fees for part-time students.

Mount Association for Non-Traditional University Students

This series contains information about the Mount Association for Non-Traditional University Students (MANUS), which was formally known as Campus Association of Part-Time University Students (CAPUS). This organization began in in order to meet the needs of non-traditional (mature and part-time) students attending the Mount and was overseen by the Student Union. The series contains information about the formation of the organization, information about when the organization was knows as CAPUS, administrative materials, conference information, information about Shinerama participation, a survey of members, orientation information, information regarding the task force for the report to the Nova Scotia Royal Commission on Post-Secondary Education, financial information relating to MANUS, and documents related to the continuing education committee. The series also contains information about the Canadian Organization of Part-Time University Students, which was a larger governing body to which CAPUS and MANUS belonged.

The majority of this file is comprised of election regulations and guidelines but the file also contains negative sheets which include photos of students running for election.
